KIDS-N-CO presents 2007 Awards

    El Paso Kids-N-Co. chose a Country Fair setting to honor students, parents and supporters for their contributions during the 2006-2007 season. Revelers gathered at the Kids-N-Co. Performance Center, 1301 Texas Ave., from 2 - 5 p.m. Saturday to play old-fashioned carnival games with prizes provided by McDonald's, Burger King and Peter Piper Pizza. Sunland Park Mall's Chic-Fil-A provided food for the young thespians and their families.

    At the conclusion of the afternoon's festivities, Kids-N-Co. president Stella Gutierrez and lead teacher Carol Viescas took to the stage to hand out the annual awards.
Teachers, directors and staff choose All-Star Cast members for making an exceptional mark of any kind, whether onstage, backstage, in productions, camps or classes. Ten students were named to the 2007 All-Star Cast. Honorees included Tori Castillo, Jim Lupercio, Karissa Natera, Brennan Patrick and Carlos Chandler. Also named were Erik Myers, Hannah McFarling, Madison Alford, Chyna Lane and Will Gonzalez.

    Gutierrez presented two Shooting Star Awards to organizations who make a difference to the local arts scene. Price's Creameries was cited for showing the way and leading El Paso in supporting Kids-N-Co.'s efforts to bring the live theater experience to the children and families of our community. Yolanda Alameda and the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department were named for providing light, hope and inspiration to the local community of small arts organizations.

    The President's Award went to Sharon Moore, the KIDS-N-CO. Director of Costuming. Nora Natera was named Parent of the Year and Karissa Natera took the Student of the Year honor.
Kids-N-Co. is beginning its 20th year of presenting quality theater and theatrical instruction for El Paso's young people. For more information on the organization, call 351-1455.
